Viña La Rosa
CACHAPOAL VALLEY, CHILE

Viña La Rosa is one of the oldest wineries in Chile, located in the beautiful Rapel Valley - 75 miles south of the capital city of Santiago and 19 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyards enjoy spectacular sun exposure and temperate climate in the highly regarded Cachapoal Valley.

In 1824 Don Francisco Ignacio Ossa founded Viña La Rosa with traditional vinifera root stocks. For the first 100 years of operation the company focused on growing their fruit business and today the company is among the largest fruit exporters in the world. Of the 9,000 acres of vineyards the Ossa family owns, some 2,000 are planted to wine vines. The winery boasts a tank capacity of 17 million liters or the equivalent of some 800,000 cases. The vineyards are equally divided amongst three distinct sites, producing three distinctly different ranges of quality and intensity. The Puemo Valley possesses the oldest vines of the holdings of Vina La Rosa. The Cornellana Valley is a steeply sloped and very narrow valley that gets an abundance of sun and wind exposure, leading to the production of the very best wines from Viña La Rosa which are labeled under La Captiana Reserve. The final vineyard, La Palmeria De Cocalan is also the site of the only national park in northern Chile. Here you will find the only collection of native Chilean palm trees (Jubaea Chilensis) which can grow to over 100 feet tall and many possess an age in excess of 1000 years old.

In 1994 Viña La Rosa began to produce wine commercially. Prior to that the Ossa family sold grapes to both Concho Y Toro (they owned 25% of that winery up until 1995) and Casa Lapostelle, while making a small amount of wine for customers in Europe. Today their wines can be found around the globe, winning top awards in every country they are present.
