Korta Wines
CHILE
Viña Korta, founded in 1990 and dedicated exclusively to the production of fine wines, has its roots in almost 60 years of family tradition. Curtidos Korta established in 1948 by Jose Korta, became Frutas de Curico in 1989 and under Francisco Korta continues its operations in Curico, Chile 195 kilometers south of Santiago on the 35th southern parallel in the Curico Valley, a top wine growing region of Chile.
The valley where Korta Vineyards is located is called “Sagrada Familia” (Sacred Family) this is precisely where the climate and soil conditions are about the best in the world for producing red wine. Currently 217 of the 494 acres of vineyard are planted. The looming Andes and dormant volcanoes dominate the eastern skyline while coastal mountains block the maritime influence and create a continual effect. The result is a pronounced daytime-nighttime temperature differential that is very beneficial for flavor and aroma development.
Under the direction of consulting winemaker Irene Paiva (San Pedro Winery, Caliterra) and winemaker Ricardo Perez, Korta Wines are focused in character with soft tannins which creates a wine to be enjoyed upon release as a well developing complexity upon ageing. One of the most important concerns contemplated in the viticulture of Korta Vineyards is the conservation of the environment. Each one of the various production stages has been carried out with the highest degree of sensitivity.
