2006 Chateau Capion Rouge
Blend: 90% Syrah, 5% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre.
Position in Vineyards: exposed west, north-west.
Type of Soil: limestone, well-drained.
Average Age of Vines: The oldest vines on the estate are more than 30 years old. Each year they give a very special harvest. As the vines age, the yields become smaller, yet the aromas are intensified.
Average Output: 20hl/hectare for 3800 plantations per hectare.
Time of Harvest: mid September 2006 for the Syrah and Grenache, beginning of October for the Mourvèdre.
Vinification Details: Hand picked and then carefully scanned on a conveyor belt. A portion of the harvest goes through the process of soft pressing. Then the fermentation begins and the temperature is continuously controlled, so as not to exceed 26°C. We begin with the rundown, then punching and pumping daily. The soaking process runs for 28 days.
Type & Size of Barrels: Bordelais type French oak barrels. 60% of the wine is matured for 16 months in new oak barrels.

Winemaker’s Comments: Dark purple colour, intense truffle, blackberry and black pepper flavours. The wine is beautifully silky and compact at the same time. This wonderful wines IS the secret of Capion.
